The truth is people often make it difficult on themselves to make hip hop beats because of the simple fact that they over think the situation. What I mean by that is how many of you listen to a beat and think how in the world did he make that. I even raised my hand on that one. But as I got into music more and more I realized that if you break a beat down into parts it's really simple. You have your drum beat, then your strings, and maybe a sample or some FX. What I'm trying to get at is that if your going to make beats and you break it down into sections like I told you earlier I guarantee you that you'll come out with a better sounding beat.
Although its important, knowing how to breakdown a beat is only 1/4th of the battle. Two other important and probably the most important factors is your CREATIVITY and to BE YOURSELF. Your creativity and being yourself accounts for 1/2 the battle when it comes to beats. Without creativity everything would sound the same, What I suggest you do is always keep your creative space. Always have one place where your mind is set free from the outside world and all your thinking about is how your going to beats. One mistake that people make is they get caught up in trying to make hip hop beats like Dr Dre or The Neptunes, and that's when people start to lose their creativity and individualism. Without individualism people lose the things that make them stand out as person and that self expression. So it's always important to remember when making hip hop beats that you be yourself and always remain creative.
The last factor when it comes to making hip hop beats is your ability to paint a picture when you make hip hop beats. Your ability to grab the listener and paint a picture in his head with your music. What people don't understand is that if you make hip hop beats and you are able to touch the soul of the artist your chances of selling the beat to that artist will skyrocket.
So, remember to never over think the situation and just let it flow naturally because that will allow you to paint a more vivid picture. Always remember to keep your creativity and to most importantly be yourself. If you keep these things in mind you will be successful.
